To tell you the truth, black roses don’t actually exist. They only look black because of their dark and deep red color. There are different types of black roses but the most popular among them is Black Jade and most of the gardeners like to grow this rose plant. If you are also interested in growing Black Jade in your garden then you must know about all the tips and requirements to grow them properly. Some of the most important tips are given below:

  • Black Jade should be planted in sandy soil so if you feel that your soil is very heavy due to clay then you will require adding some sand or organic mulch in soil. As far as location requirements are concerned, these roses need partial shade to grow healthily. After planting, pack the soil slackly around plant and then water.
  • The soil should be kept hardly moist to grow black rose properly and take care that water should not stand as this may cause mold growth. I made this mistake while growing my black roses and lost them consequently so I will strongly recommend you to take care of this factor. During hot weather, black roses should be watered at least thrice a week.
  • Fertilizing is also important so add fertilizer soil making sure that the fertilizer has been especially made for roses. For fertilizing properly, follow instructions given on fertilizer bag. Mostly black roses need to be fertilized at start of their growing season and once in middle of their growing season.
  • Rose bush should be pruned in winter. Months of January and February are best for this purpose. Prune the rose bush all the way down in such a way that only four to six inches is left on stem.
  • You will constantly need to watch plants for brown spots on leaves or petals because these plants are delicate and defenseless to fungus. So if you find spots on leaves, immediately treat your plant with a fungicide.

Black roses need special care while growing them so follow above mentioned tips and have a healthy black rose plant in your garden.

Rock rose which is also commonly known as Cistus, is a plant in form of a bush having single rose like flowers. Some of its varieties grow up to five feet tall whereas some others species grow lower and come in form of ground covers. These are evergreen plants having short lived flowers but if proper ways are adopted for their growth and care, they can produce new blooms everyday during entire summer season. I am a rock rose lover and have some important tips on growing rock rose which are given below for your help and information.

Growth Requirements

Some growth requirements and conditions are given below:

Light and Weather Conditions

These plants require full sun for their healthy growth and the best thing which I like about rock rose is that they can also be grown on seashore as they easily tolerate salt air. They can bear hot weather conditions as well and maintain their rich and decorative look. Rock rose can also be grown in a garden that can bear drought making the garden looking lush and verdant.

Soil

As far as soil requirements are concerned, they should be grown in fertile soil having rough surface. If soil is richer than the requirements of rock rose then this plant will find it difficult to live through winter months. These plants like dry and stony soil lacking organic substances so use of gravel mulch is recommended for their healthy growth.

Watering

I must also mention here about watering tips for rock rose plant. Their roots are vulnerable and rot quickly in wet soils so good drainage is must for these plants. To improve drainage, I would recommend you to add sand to the planting hole.

Plantation

Rootball of Cistus should be handled gently while planting because its roots are brittle and can break in case of improper care. People generally get confused about their growing season so for those people I would like to mention that the best growing season is early summer or late spring.

Trimming

Cistus can be pruned to improve their growth and appearance. The best time to trim them is during their blooming period but trimming season also depends on regions in which they are grown. If you are growing them in colder regions then prune them at the end of winter and if they are grown in mild winter regions, you are recommended to cut them back in autumn so remember to prune them annually.

Following the above given tips, you can grow Cistus and surprise your guests with a unique look of your garden.

There are a large number of flowers that can be planted in early spring season because at that time of year the ground is soft enough to plant different types of flowers. Early spring flowers will give your garden a colorful and elegant look with their refreshing colors and look. Here I am providing you names of some flowers that you can plant in your garden as early spring flowers.

Snapdragons

Being annual flowers, snapdragons can be planted year after year. These flowers bloom in cool climates and are very attractive looking flowers as they have colorful borders. The best time to plant them is early spring when the soil is still cool. They grow very well when they are provided with well-drained soil and full sunlight but they can also bear light frosts as well.

Lilies

These flowers are very easy to grow and can be planted at any time of the year especially in early spring. The method of planting the lilies is somewhat difficult as compared to other early spring flowers. Before planting the lily bulbs in the spring, you are required to place a 4 inch coating of mulch over the area where you want to plant the lilies. Afterwards you can remove the mulch when the shoots start to appear. Like snapdragons, lilies also like full sunlight and well-drained soil. Excessive water in the soil will become a cause of perished and rotten bulbs.

Roses

Roses are also grown in early spring when the soil is soft enough to plant these flowers. Most of the home gardeners like to grow roses in the bush form but some types of roses are very small and they are required to be grown in pots. Most of the roses are sweet-smelling but some don’t have any fragrance. The blooms of roses can range from one flower to several flowers on one stem. All types of roses like full sunlight and drained soil for their proper growth.

Pansies

These are lovely early spring flowers as they come in a variety of colors including purple and off-white. They flourish best in cool spring season. They grow well both in full or partial sunlight and require humid but well-drained soil like most of the others early spring flowers. They continue to bloom until the weather gets hot and then they start to wither.

Daffodils

They are another very popular type of early spring flowers having an eye-catching yellow color. Most of the people know about only yellow daffodils that grow in early spring but there are some other very attractive colors of daffodils including pink, white and cream.

These were some of the most popular early spring flowers that you can plant to beautify your garden.

Roses are very beautiful flowers and come in different colors. That’s why they are the most dearly loved flowers all over the world. People present rose to their loved ones for expressing love, friendship and compassion. Due to their loveliness and grace, some people want to grow these flowers in their home garden but find it complex and difficult to grow them properly. Keeping this in mind, I am giving some tips on growing rose flowers easily.

Watering

It is better to water the roses early in the morning or in afternoon. Roses are among one of the flowers that like good drainage but in spite of this, they require a lot of water during their growing season. Special care has to be taken during drought as at this time they require to be soaked at least twice a week. While watering, keep in mind that water should be given to the soil so that the spray on the leaves is not washed away with water.

Planting Location

Roses require a lot of sunlight. Make sure that flowers get sunlight for 4 to 6 hours daily for their better growth. Rose plants also require proper air circulation so they should not be planted in a location that is crowded by other plants. For climber rose plants, make strong fences to provide them proper space to grow.

Soil

Also consider that the soil of the planting location is good enough for the rose plants. Roses require a soil having a PH from 5.5 to 6.5. Moreover roses grow well in clay soil having a reasonable amount of organic matter.

Fertilizing

Fertilizers should be provided to rose plants twice a year; once before autumn blossom and once before spring bloom. For this it is recommended to use chemical fertilizers according to the directions given on the packets of fertilizers.

Pruning

Pruning of rose flowers is done twice; once at the time of planting and once after the plants have been established. At planting time, the top of plant should be cut 4 to 5 inches above the ground leaving three sturdy branches. Although this pruning seems to be severe, it is better for healthy growth. This pruning should be done only if you are planting in spring. But if you are planting them in fall, there is no need to prune them severely.

As a mentioned above, pruning is also done after the plants are established. So at this time, cut them 4 to 6 inches above the ground. This pruning is done in early spring leaving those branches which are strong and healthy.

Spraying

You should also protect your rose plant from getting any diseases. So it is recommended to spray them regularly from the time the first leave begin to develop.

These were some of the tips on growing rose flowers. I hope you will find them quite beneficial and interesting.
